Labels

Labels group machines however you like — by site, role, owner, customer, or whatever you actually think in.

Manage

Labels → Manage lists your labels and lets you create, edit, and delete them.

A machine's labels appear on its Summary tab. Labels survive revoking and re-enrolling — they belong to the machine's record, not to its credential.

What to label

Labels are most useful where the machine's own properties are not enough. The console already knows the operating system and the architecture, so labelling those adds nothing. What it does not know:

  • Which site or rack a machine is in
  • What it is for — build-server, till, reception
  • Who owns it, if you manage machines for other people
  • Whether it matters — critical versus spare

Auto Label

Not yet available

The Auto Label tab is a placeholder. It shows an empty table, and the add and search controls do nothing.

Rule-based automatic labelling — "anything whose hostname starts with web- gets web-tier" — does not exist. Apply labels manually under Manage.

Filtering by label

Selecting a label chip on a machine card is meant to filter the list to that label, but the filter term it inserts is not currently interpreted by the server and the list comes back empty. Clear the filter box to recover.

Filtering by hostname works.
